Our trip to Alaska

Captain’s Travel Club was able to coordinate the fishing trip with a local charter boat in the Kenai Fjords which is abundant in both salmon and halibut. The Group spent some time hiking various trails, including one that leads very close to Exit Glacier.

Exit Glacier offered stunning views of the Harding Ice fields. One of the hiking trails took the group up and down Marathon Mountain, which is approximately 4,462 feet high.

The town of Seward hosts an annual marathon race up the Mountain trail every Fourth of July. Seward has a wonderful campground, with an open invitation to RV’s, providing picnic areas and restrooms near the harbor. The Group continued their travels to the town of Ninilchik, once again taking in the breathtaking surroundings and also spending some time clamming.

The view included a glimpse of Redoubt Volcano which has been noted as being the most dangerous volcano in Alaska. The campground in Ninichik was welcoming and provided picnic areas next to the beach which was very convenient. The area was a fantastic location for bird watching, as the Group was able to catch sight of ducks, lagoons, and perched eagles.

Homer was the next stop on the journey and we were able to travel a road that lead through a beautiful valley while providing picturesque views of the ocean. Homer is noted as being the “Halibut Fishing Capital of the World”.

Halibut fishing is not the only lure to this city however. The Kachemak Bay and the visitor center are also worth visiting along this stop of the trip.

The Salty Dawg Saloon provides good service, friendly atmosphere, unique décor, and a glimpse into their interesting history. As the trip to Homer concluded, the Group packed up, bid a fond adieu to the beautiful landscape, and and do some moose and bear spotting.

If you are interested in booking an Alaskan Cruise, I recommend scheduling some time to spend on land in order to take in the breathtaking landscapes and wildlife that Alaska has to offer. One can choose a fabulous tour package or take the train and experience the Alaskan Railroad.

Captain’s Travel Club was able to provide substantial discounts on cruises and tours to the group members.

Several cruise lines offer packages that include tours that are included with the cruise. This is a fantastic way to see the nature and wildlife that make Alaska so unique.

Denali National Park, Mt McKinley, and Exit Glacier are scenic attractions that are open year round. Cell phone service is adequate throughout the majority of Alaska.

Captain’s Travel Club recommends taking a late summer, early fall adventure to Alaska in order to witness the vibrant colored foliage but travel accommodations can be arranged for any time of year that fits your schedule.
